artur pastor, memories of the land (2006–2007)

Over eighty photographs that reconstruct mid-20th century Portugal under the gaze of one of this country’s most prestigious and celebrated photographers, Artur Pastor (1922–1999). An agricultural technical engineer, he was part of the State’s staff for about thirty years, obtaining more than 10.000 photos that make up the Photo Library of the General Directorate of Agricultural Services. The highlight is on working the land, through the lens and photographic art of Artur Pastor, who eternalizes through his record a Portugal that has all but disappeared but, thanks to his collection, will never be forgotten. An exhibition created by the Museum’s scientific team with the support of Artur Pastor, son of the photographer to whom we pay tribute.
