A selection of photographs of the oldest raccards, also known as “sequeiros”, “canastros”, “caniços”, or “hôrreos”, which gave rise to an exhibition that was open to the public in the Museum outdoor area. Corn was harvested in the autumn and had to spend the winter, a very inclement season, in storage. To prevent access by rodents and ensure adequate airing, tall structures, normally made of stone and/or wood, were built and the corn stored there for the winter. In Portugal, raccards can be found mainly in the North, especially in the Minho, Beira Litoral, Beira Interior, and Trás-os-Montes regions.
