old lusitanian land
(2011 - 2012)
A collection of illustrations of Portuguese towns, framed in dough, as they were 500 years ago, in dozens of 16th-century engravings ordered by King Manuel of nobleman Duarte D’Armas, depicting several Portuguese locations. The mission was military in nature and intended to ascertain the state of Portugal’s fortresses and castles. This is a portrait of big and small towns of the time, a Portugal that was rural and popular, castellan and everyday.
