memories of the land (2002 – 2003)
An exhibition of 15 rural and landscape canvases, painted in acrylic, by Maria José Morgado, an artist from Amoreira, Abrantes. The artist studied under the famous Master Irmã Malheiro, the great Malhoa, and Irmã Gabriela, one of the greatest names in painting today, and received lessons from the famous painter Aleksandr Mihaltchuk. Her work follows the long tradition of Portuguese naturalism and has been included in several national and international exhibitions. In her work, roots, the past, and memory of the land are ever present. In a rapidly changing world, the gaze and work of Maria José Morgado are a bridge to a universe that is still present in the depths of the Portuguese soul.
